Sentinel
Reader
Role
of a Sentinel Reader NB: Sentinel readers must be in
independent (unsupervised) clinical practice at least part time.
As
a Sentinel Reader, you will be sent by e-mail notice that you
have articles to rate in the system. These articles will match
your practice discipline. You can control the maximum number of
articles sent each month (from 1 to infinity!).
As a Sentinel Reader you will look over the articles online and
rate them on two scales:
- one for relevance to your clinical practice
- one for newsworthiness (i.e., is this "news", or something you already know?)
We'll collate
your ratings with at least 2 other colleagues and use your ratings
to:
- build an evidence-based information system
- choose the most pertinent articles for ACP Journal Club, Evidence-Based Medicine, and other evidence-based information services such as bmjupdates+ (for the BMJ Publishing Group), PIER (for the American College of Physicians), and Medscape (for WebMD)
(see How ratings
are used)
- show you how other clinicians in your discipline rated the same articles (Rating History)
- send you CME credits yearly that are automatically recorded for each article you rate (or, for areas outside of North America, a letter of recognition)
- show you the highest rated articles in your discipline (Stellar Articles)
You are also invited to comment on the article, if you wish, but please
take care if you do.
- We are most
interested in your thoughts about clinical application:
Can the results of the study or review be used now? If so, in what
clinical circumstances?
- If you choose
to comment on the research methods of a study, please be very sure
that your comments are accurate and methodologically sound
- Raters' comments
that appear libelous, blasphemous, or thoughtless in
the opinion of the MORE staff will not be used!
- The names of raters, or any information that might identify individual raters, will not be included in the materal that is forwarded to publishers or end-users.
We look forward to our collaboration! |
